EMBRANCING JOY AND INCLUSIVITY: A NEW YEAR’S FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN / MOKSHADA CHOUDHARY

As we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new, it’s heartening to witness communities coming together to celebrate inclusivity and joy. One such remarkable event that took place on the occasion of the New Year was a fair dedicated to special needs children including many small kids who are born deaf and dumb, some were even blind by birth. This heart-warming celebration aimed to create an environment where every child, regardless of their abilities, could revel in the spirit of the season.

The fair was a testament to the power of inclusivity, as my NGO ‘The Care Takers Society’ and me as a leading activist, worked tirelessly to ensure that every child felt welcome and valued. From accessible entrances and facilities to sensory-friendly activities, every detail was meticulously planned to cater to the diverse needs of the special needs community.

To entertain everybody we planned out many games and activities. We set up a small shooting range for the kids to win prizes and gift by shooting balloons, it is a very commonly known game played in fairs. Next, to make it even more fun, we placed a train on tracks as in a fun ride for the small ones. They were thrilled to sit in it with their friends! We also made a small trampoline park for them as we all know hoe much kids love jumping all around. And lastly as we all know that a party is incomplete without dancing, we had dance floor ready for them. On which they danced their souls out! They were so content with evening that they forgot everything and enjoyed to their fullest! But after all this they were super tired , so we catered a snacks bar for them more like a dinner! Seeing all those smiles and happy faces just made my entire year!!

Amidst the festivities, the fair also took a moment to facilitate some dignitaries. I was fortunate enough to be the part of the stage. I was facilitated as a young author and poet and was acknowledged for my work in social service and active participation. Spending time with them was just so eye-opening for me. They way these kids survive among us who have everything is really amazing. There are very few people who devote to them and try to improve their lives overall. I was really motivated to do the same and seeing them just made my heart melt. I wanted to do more for them. I decided that from now once every month I will try to spend the entire day with them and cater them while enjoying the small happy memories made!

The New Year’s fair for special needs children stands as a shining example of how communities can come together to create an inclusive and joyous environment. By embracing diversity and celebrating the unique qualities of every child, the event not only brought smiles to the faces of special needs children but also left a lasting impact on the entire community. As we embark on the journey of a new year, let this fair serve as a reminder that inclusivity is a powerful force that can bring about positive change and unity in our communities.
